How can “Jeff’ Gordon is not from the South” be an exuse for people disliking him?

Or there’s Matt Kenseth from Wisconsin. Kasey Kahne’s from Washington, which is pretty North, too. How can people really justify their **** for Gordon because he’s not from the South when there are so many well liked drivers from the North?
